Machinery Movers in Peterborough
Peterborough has a big manufacturing and distribution base, from food processing and packaging to engineering and window manufacturing, and those businesses regularly need machines moved between sites. Our machinery movers in Peterborough collect the machine, load it on the right vehicle, carry it to the new location and unload it. We do this for single machines and for whole production units moving from one estate to another.
We handle the lifting and the transport. Before collection, the machine is disconnected by your engineers or a firm you choose, and they reconnect it after delivery. We do not dismantle, rig, install or commission machinery, and we do not move it through buildings once it is off the vehicle. Our loading and unloading follow the HSE workplace transport guidance, because that is where most of the risk in a machinery move sits.
Typical machines
- Food processing and packing machines
- Welding, cutting and fabrication equipment
- Window and door manufacturing machinery
- Lathes, mills and workshop equipment
- Forklifts and warehouse equipment
- Grain handling and farm workshop machinery
Step by step
Information first. We need weights, dimensions, lifting points or fork pockets, photos, and a description of access at both sites, including any height restrictions, gates and the ground the vehicle will stand on.
Method and price. Next we settle on the lorry, the lifting approach and the price, and send it to you in writing.
Moving day. Once your engineers have disconnected the machine, our crew loads it, ties it down and takes it to the new address. It comes off the vehicle at the place we agreed, which is normally a loading bay or a door. Getting it inside is down to your own staff.
Lifting options
If you have a suitable forklift at both ends, that is often the quickest way to load and unload. If no forklift is available, or yours is not rated for the weight, our HIAB lorries lift it on and off with their own cranes. For a simple collection and delivery job, see our plant and machinery haulage page.
Oversized machinery
Some machines come out taller or wider than standard limits allow, particularly once support arms or frames are counted. A machine that is too tall for a flat deck can be carried on one of our low loaders, driver included. Anything over 3 metres wide needs advance notice to the authorities, which our abnormal load transport in Peterborough arranges. Where parts such as arms can be unbolted by your engineers and carried separately, the main body may stay within normal limits, so it is worth asking.
How much do machinery movers cost in Peterborough?
An example from a machine move we carried out for a Peterborough business this year:
- £675: 2.2 tonne turret welding machine, Barnsley to Peterborough (July 2026)
That was the real price for that move. Please read it as an example only; it stands as a guide for October 2026. Fuel costs, the machine itself, the distance and access at each end will all change your figure. Prices exclude VAT.
Moving a whole unit
When a business moves its entire production line, the order of the move matters as much as the move itself. We go through the machine list with you, work out how many vehicle loads it needs, and agree a sequence that suits your shutdown. Your engineers can disconnect in that order and reconnect as each load arrives. Small items such as tooling, spares and benches can share space on the same vehicles to cut the number of trips.
Food and packaging equipment
Food production is one of Peterborough's biggest industries, and food machinery brings its own considerations. Stainless steel equipment marks easily, so it needs protecting where straps and chains touch it. Conveyors, fillers and packing machines are often long and light for their size, which affects how they sit on the deck and how they are tied down. Some items have to stay clean in transit, so tell us if they need wrapping or covering before loading. Your hygiene team may also have rules about vehicles and drivers entering production areas, and we will follow them. We collect from the dispatch side of the building and deliver to the agreed point at the new site, leaving your team to take the equipment into the clean area and set it up.

Frequently asked questions
How much do machinery movers cost in Peterborough?
£675 2.2 tonne turret welding machine, Barnsley to Peterborough (July 2026)
Do you disconnect the machines?
No. That work is done by your maintenance staff or whoever you bring in for it. We simply line up our arrival with the time they finish.
Can parts travel separately?
Yes. Arms, guards and other parts your engineers remove can travel on the same vehicle or a separate one, which can keep the main machine within normal size limits.
How much notice do you need?
About a week for one machine. For a full unit, as early as possible.
